INGLÉS PARA ACTIVISTAS: UNA CLASE AUTOGESTIONADA

El miércoles 6 de febrero tuvimos nuestra primera clase en el Centro Social Casa Abierta (C/ Patriarca 22). En la segunda parte de la sesión, distintos grupos trabajaron sobre cómo vamos a organizar la clase: las actividades dentro y fuera de la clase; los temas que vamos a tratar; el uso de tecnología en la clase; "cargos" en la clase (ej. tesorero/moderador/facilitador informático). La participación de todo el grupo en la organización de la clase va a ser un proceso constante durante el curso (febrero-junio). El miércoles 13 de febrero empezaremos el primer módulo (21st Century).

Activities:
Watch films/documentaries/presentations out of class (online) and discuss them in class.
Watching shorter extracts of films etc. in class.
Link films with global issues such as poverty and exploitation (e.g. Slumdog Millionaire + Blood Diamonds)
Watch or read the news and discuss it in class.
Songs: upload or locate lyrics and work on them outside class. Groups present them in class.
Teamwork: a group researching a topic and presenting it to the class
Debates: following input about topics
15M hand signals: to use to express approval/disapproval

Topics:
Cultural differences.  Wealth and Happiness. The energy crisis and sustainability. Poverty in the world. Capitalism.

Technology:
Establish online connections through a yahoo group email which has the possibility of a forum.
Good website for presentations/documentaries: www.ted.com
Various people suggested a program for downloading audiovisual material from youtube.

Treasurer: Alberto
Organise a whiteboard: Ángeles
Moderator: a moderator is needed for all class debates/discussions

Timing:
Class starts at 19h and finishes at 21h. We won’t stop for a break but will have a tea or coffee during groupwork.

Methodology:
There was a debate about correction of mistakes in class. We will finish this off next Wednesday.
